CWF Match Writing Style Guide
General:
- Use of Ellipses – in general, these should be kept to a minimum, except where noted below in the counts section. Use general writing rules for english
- Song lyrics and other things – these should be italicized and a line between the start and end of the lyrics
- Speech
- These should be denoted by name and a dash (we don’t use colons) for the CCW style. (modified script style)
- Ex:
- Ben Price –
- Eddie Vega –
- Eric Wilson –
- Tommy Onions –

- Match Length
- Unless told otherwise, in general it is a base of 3 action paragraphs plus 1 to 2 paragraphs per roleplay submitted. So a non-rping opponent will get squashed quicker, while a match with some good rp action will be longer, showing the two fighting harder to get to the prize of a win.
- Of course, this can be changed based on the quality of the roleplays as well or angles submitted

- Referee Usage
- CWF referees are named and have their own ‘strats’ built in
- They should be named and their names used
- Additionally if you can, have Eric Wilson introduce them at the start of the match.
- See the staff page for information, or information will be provided in your match writer’s thread.
- Angled endings
- Sometimes people work together and come up with something different, we try to work with them, but those will be given to the match writer as a strat submission.

- DQ’s and count outs
- We try to NOT do WWE style finishes. This helps keep this a special thing when it happens
- In general, the winner still won the match, just how they win it is for storyline purposes.
- Angled finishes of course will be relayed to the writer.
Pin Counts & Other Counts
- Pins
- These should be written as an ellipses followed by the number spelled out (just one …)
- … One
- They should be double spaced between counts and adding additional ellipses for each number

…… Two
……….Three
- Sometimes you can follow up with this by the kickout or shoulder up replacing one of the numbers to show how close it was.
- Example

- …One
- Example
- Count outs
- These should be done as a numerical number followed by an ellipsis
- 1 …
- Remember these are supposed to be ~ 1 second apart so action or commentary should continue in between.
- 1…
Mysterion hits Abel with a drop toe hold onto the ring steps
2…
- 1…
- These should be done as a numerical number followed by an ellipsis
- Other Counts (rope break, corner, punches etc)
- These should be written out and can move quicker or slower depending on the referee. They should be written out. These can be single spaced or all on one line
- Example: Scott Jones starts a 5 count for punching.
One… Two… Three… - Example: Ashley Beaton warns the two to get off the ropes
One…
Two…

- These should be written out and can move quicker or slower depending on the referee. They should be written out. These can be single spaced or all on one line
Entrances
- Use the entrance provided on the wrestler’s bio page
- Some may submit a different entrance in their strat, that would override.
- Match writers can edit within reason to accommodate such things as pre-match angles/strats and the likes
Using Strats
- Strats take priority over what’s in a bio page unless its ridiculous
- Every means to accommodate strats should be attempted
- If two strats counter each other or make it an issue, tag one of the booking staff to come look at them in your thread for follow up and advice. Staff can override in this case.
Title Matches:
- Valor Title Division Rules – In particular we need to talk about the Valor title here
- Valor title is fought under ‘Pure Wrestling Rules”
- The title can change hands on a disqualification
- You cheat you lose
- The title can change hands on a count out
- You try to run you lose
- The title can change on a failure to do a rope break or other tactics
- You ignore the warnings of a ref for a 5 count you lose
- The referees for these matches (usually Ashley Beaton or Clyde Baxter) are told that under no uncertain circumstances should they allow any shenanigans AT ALL.
- The Valor title can be fought under other stipulations for big matches (i.e. ladder matches, etc) and any changes to these NORMAL rules will be communicated to the match writer.
- Elite Title Rules
- This is being added at Naval Warfare end of October 2023
- All matches for this are a ‘mystery’ gimmick.
- The gimmick will be determined before the match and given to the match writer
- The gimmick will not be given to the combatants until they see the show
- Basically, if it’s allowed by the gimmick, it’s allowed in the match.
- We are going to be trying to brand some gimmicks to CWF or Elite title
- Example the Ultimate X match at Naval Warfare is being branded “Elite-X” for the finals to determine the inaugural champion.
